At the FIA World RX of Germany, Johan Kristoffersson is aiming for his fifth rallycross title overall. The Swede is having an absolute dream season and has won almost every race so far. Kristoffersson has fond memories of the Nürburgring. Back in 2021, he was allowed to put on the crown of rallycross sport in the snowy Eifel. The spectators can be there live in the stadium-like round of the Müllenbachschleife. During the action on gravel and asphalt, they have the approximately one-kilometre-long track and the exceptionally fast racing cars in view at all times: Equipped with 500 kW - equivalent to around 680 hp - and a torque of 880 Nm, they accelerate faster than current Formula 1 cars. After three days of sport, the traditional cycling event "Rad am Ring" at the Nürburgring ends with great success. On Sunday noon, around 4500 cyclists crossed the finish line after the 24-hour race. On Friday and Saturday, the Everyman races, time trials and the WPCC World Championship for Journalists had already taken place. The athletes' reactions were enthusiastic throughout. As soon as the race was over, they received their medals and raved: "Cycling here is awesome, I come from the dyke, there we always have wind, but no mountains." "It's the spirit, the team, the ambience!", "Finally such a great race again, so much has been cancelled because of Corona." In the best summer weather, they had cycled around the clock in teams of 2, 4 and 8 or as individual cyclists either around the Nordschleife of the legendary Nürburgring or around the Nürburg on the mountain bike course of about 8 kilometres. Hanns-Martin Fraas, organiser of Rad am Ring, drew a thoroughly positive balance of the competition and thanked the participants warmly: "I am so happy that we are all back after three years. Thank you very much for that! It was excellent from a sporting point of view, but safety is also an issue for me. All the participants were so disciplined, it went really well, there were no major accidents. That's always the most important thing." Twice Rad am Ring had to be cancelled because of Corona, in 2022 Hanns-Martin Fraas could again welcome more than 8600 participants who spent Friday to Sunday at the Nürburgring. In addition to the 24h race, Rad am Ring offers numerous other disciplines, but for most participants the 24h race is the highlight of the weekend. The ambience of the Grand-Prix circuit and the sporting challenges of the legendary Nordschleife make the day-and-night race incomparable. Extreme sportsmen and passably trained amateur racers alike get their money's worth. A lap of the Grand Prix circuit and the Nordschleife in the 24-hour version measures around 26 kilometres and, in addition to 92 bends, also has around 560 metres of altitude. Hanns-Martin Fraas, organiser of Rad am Ring, on the course: "The asphalt of the racetrack is simply perfect and offers good grip even in the winding downhill sections. Up to 100km/h have been measured, but these are top speeds. The "Hohe Acht" section is notorious, with gradients of up to 17 per cent." For many participants, Rad am Ring has been an integral part of their summer planning for years; both ambitious athletes and relaxed leisure cyclists always get their money's worth at Rad am Ring. On Saturday, the popular Everyman races also took place in the 25km, 75km and 150km disciplines. For the little ones there is the Kids Race. Racing bikes, mountain bikes and e-bikes - all find their disciplines here. In addition to the sporting activities, Rad am Ring is also popular as a meeting place for friends and family, with many camping on the extensive grounds in the Eifel. The good summer weather also played an important role, the temperatures were not as scorching hot as in the rest of Germany, there was a gentle breeze, simply ideal for cyclists. So many said goodbye with the firm intention of definitely coming back next summer.

"StrongmanRun at the Nürburging" - today that meant versatile obstacles with 20,000 car tyres, 1,000m² of climbing nets and 60 overseas containers. On the 12km course, 18 obstacles were waiting for the original distance of more than 20 kilometres, all of which had to be overcome twice. For runners who wanted to get a taste of the StrongmanRun feeling, the 6km FunRun was on the programme. In 2023, the obstacle race will start under the name HOTFOOT RUN! 7,000 runners conquered obstacles made of water, mud, straw and tyres. They scaled stacked containers on wobbly climbing nets and dodged nasty electric shocks.It is not only the Green Hell at the StrongmanRun that is unique, but also the spectacular obstacles, the brilliant start show and above all the personal success stories that the runners associate with the StrongmanRun. Tom Belz, for example, was there again: he lost his leg to cancer at the age of eight and took part in the StrongmanRun for the third time. The Nürburgring kicks off the season. In 2022, the versatile event location will once again offer the entire event portfolio with engine sounds, guitar tones and endurance sports. Finally, the focus is back on the fan experience. At the ADAC TotalEnergies 24h-Nürburgring, the unique party atmosphere will return to the Green Hell for the 50th anniversary, and at Rock am Ring thousands of festival visitors will finally celebrate together again. Those who want to feel like a racing driver themselves this year are also in good hands at the Nürburgring. The training sessions for everyone with the new Formula 4 cars provide unique memories. Despite the different event formats, thrilling motorsport is still the focus at the legendary race track. The racing series and vehicles are characterised by an enormous variety. Impressive race trucks, such as at the ADAC Truck Grand Prix, are just as much a part of the experience as international top-class sport in the DTM or the ADAC GT Masters. Meanwhile, the FIA World RX of Germany is a fully electric event with plenty of power under the bonnet. On the other hand, vehicles from all eras of motorsport await at a wide variety of classic car events such as the AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix or the ADAC 1000-km-Race. Those who prefer to experience racing on two wheels will also find exciting dates in the calendar. The traditional start of the season for bikers, the "Anlassen" motorbike service, will also be held again in 2022. The emotional conclusion here is the joint parade of all participants over the legendary Nordschleife. At sporting events like Rad am Ring and the StrongmanRun, on the other hand, there is no performance measured in horsepower. Here, the participants only use their own muscle power. Away from the race track, the party gets going for the spectators at the Nürburgring Darts Gala. World champions and big names of the sport will be present in the ring°arena on 25 March. Big 24-hour anniversary, a 12-hour premiere and a mega rock festivalIn September, the big 90s party will take place in the same location - among others with the musicians of Caught in the Act or Loona. The indoor event is part of the supporting programme of the new Nürburgring 12h Race, which will celebrate its premiere from 9 - 11 September. The motorsport weekend will be the new highlight of the Nürburgring Endurance Series, which will start a total of eight times on the combination of Grand Prix Track and Nordschleife in 2022. Already in May (26.05. - 29.05.) the 50th anniversary of the legendary 24-hour race will take place. The fans will finally be able to enjoy the complete fan experience again. Including camping, barbecue and party around the Nordschleife, free choice of seats on the grandstands, access to the paddock and the obligatory visit to the grid before the race. There will be a big reunion with the fans just one week later at the Rock am Ring festival. From 3 to 5 June, the bands around the headliners Green Day, Muse and Volbeat will perform here and really heat up the crowd. A day at full throttle at the Nürburgring Driving AcademyFor all those who not only want to experience goosebump moments at events, but also want to put their foot down themselves, the Nürburgring also has an innovation in its programme. In future, participants in the Nürburgring Driving Academy training sessions will sit in ultra-modern Formula 4 cars. With breathtaking cornering speeds and explosive acceleration - from 0 to 100 km/h: 2.9 seconds - they will race around the Grand Prix Track. Everything is built according to the latest safety standards. The Nürburgring offers around 60 courses, ranging from starter courses to professional formula training. In principle, anyone with a valid driving licence and a maximum height of 1.90 metres and a weight of 110 kilograms can take part.

The first event of the year, the International Rhein Shiai, took place at the weekend. More than 500 athletes from Germany and abroad competed in top-class karate matches at the Nürburgring. The organisers relied on the versatile indoor infrastructure of the modern event location. The hotspot of the karate competition was the ring°arena. Up to 8 competitions could be held simultaneously in the infield of the multifunctional arena. Meanwhile, coaches and family were seated on the comfortable grandstands. "Optimal conditions", summed up the organising Sen5 Karate Club after the event. Especially in order to be able to meet the strict Corona protection requirements. Next door, the Bitburger Event Centre was also actively used - and the club presented itself on the ring°wall and provided walking Nürburgring visitors with impressions of the event. After the successful start to the 2022 event year, the focus is now on the future. There are just two months to go until the engines start again on the race track in mid-March. At the beginning of June, the highlight of the season awaits you in the Green Hell. From June 3 to 6, the ADAC TOTAL 24h Race will be hosted on the combination of the Grand Prix track and the Nordschleife. Just one month before, the perfect tuning was in place: The 24h Qualifying race on 8 and 9 May. The schedules for both race weekends have now been published. According to this, the 24h-Qualirace offers two action-packed days. The highlight is the six-hour race, which starts on Sunday (May 9) at 12:00 p.m.. In 2021, the 24h Race will continue to run for four days, with RCN races, touring car legends (two races), ADAC 24h Classic and of course the spectacular FIA Touring Car World Cup (WTCR – 2 races). It is not yet clear which teams and riders will be at the start. The namings are not yet finalised. Just as inconceivable as the question of who will be on the starter list at the end is the question of whether there will be spectators at the Nürburgring. At the moment, motorsport is possible for the active participants in compliance with a strict infection and hygiene concept, but fans are still not allowed to be there. Of course, the organising ADAC Nordrhein and the Nürburgring are closely monitoring the pandemic situation in order to be able to react immediately in the event of any changes. So that the fans can follow the races from anywhere, there is again an extensive streaming offer, live timing and the ticker.

The highlight of the Nürburgring season, the ADAC TOTAL 24h Race, can take place as planned. This is made possible by a show of strength by a number of partners. At the organising ADAC Nordrhein, the lights are now set on "green" for the hot phase of preparations for the race from 3 to 6 June. The ADAC 24h qualifying race on 8 and 9 May is also scheduled to take place as planned. A fundamental contribution is being made by Nürburgring 1927 GmbH & Co KG, which once again underlines the excellent cooperation with ADAC Nordrhein as the organiser. But also the premium car manufacturers Audi, BMW, Mercedes-AMG and Porsche as well as the tyre manufacturers Falken, Goodyear and Michelin are contributing considerable sums to secure the race. On the marketing partner side, Sporttotal as the holder of the 24h rights and Eurosport Events as the promoter of the FIA WTCR have made important contributions. And Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus also contributes to the sponsorship pot, demonstrating its deep commitment to the event, at which the "Glickenhaus Award" is also presented annually as a challenge cup for the fastest Nordschleife driver of the season. This year, the planning for the ADAC TOTAL 24h Race is again facing many hurdles. "Of course, we had hoped that we would be able to overcome Corona by June 2021 and that we would be able to stage the 24h race in its former glory, so to speak," summarises race director Walter Hornung, noting: "Now things are turning out quite differently, and the race will be an even bigger tour de force for us than last year." Because in view of the pandemic situation, it is currently not foreseeable whether and if so, to what extent spectators can be admitted. Hornung: "Of course, this hurts us in several ways. On the one hand, we are clearly lacking income as an important component of the budget. But on the other hand, our fans of course contribute to the inimitable atmosphere at the 24h race - and we sorely missed that last year." Nevertheless, those responsible at the ADAC Nordrhein see that the event is important for very many people - in some cases even existential. "Jobs at many teams, suppliers and also at the circuit itself depend on the 24h race," says Hornung. "That's why we really pulled out all the stops to secure the staging." It became clear early on that a postponement of the 24-hour race was not the most obvious alternative. After all, August and September are already packed with dates in the 2021 season. Collisions with other events and series would have been unavoidable. So in the end, thanks to the strong partners, it was possible to secure the staging of the race on the original date in June. "On behalf of the ADAC Nordrhein, we would like to thank them very much for this," said the race director. "And now we are very much looking forward to offering the best possible 24h race that is possible under the conditions." Tickets will be taken back for a refundOne of the biggest factors of uncertainty now is whether and to what extent spectators can be admitted to the 24h race. In the current situation, an event without any fans at all could be imminent. "But of course we will do what we can," promises race director Walter Hornung. Last year, it was already possible - at the last minute, so to speak - to open the grandstands to a limited number of fans. Because it is still not foreseeable whether the usual scope of attractions and services will be possible this year, the organisers have now decided to take back all tickets already purchased from last year. Hornung: "Advance sales for 2021 were deliberately not started. In the coming days, we will additionally create the possibility to take back tickets already purchased in the previous year for a refund of the ticket price." To make sure you don't miss the action every minute of the race, extensive live coverage is also planned for 2021, bringing the race directly to fans' living rooms via free-TV, livestream and digital services. Wave of solidarity with the 24h raceAfter interim media reports about a possible cancellation, the organisers of the ADAC TOTAL 24h race were overwhelmed by a wave of solidarity. Among other things, sports officials offered to compete without compensation and fans wanted to set up crowdfunding projects. "We are overwhelmed by these signals," says race director Walter Hornung happily. "It shows us that this event is close to the hearts of many, many people. For us organisers, this is a great incentive." Now hopes are also resting on the fact that the pandemic can finally be overcome in the course of the summer. "Because in 2022 we want to celebrate the 50th 24h race as a big reunion party - of course with the fans and with the special atmosphere that makes this weekend the most beautiful and biggest motorsport festival in Germany," says Hornung.
