24h-race in September - New dates for the second half of the year

17.03.2020

The Nürburgring is working hard to adapt its event calendar to the current situation. After intensive discussions with organizers, track tenants and authorities, the first alternative dates have been fixed now. In order to provide planning security at an early stage, the ADAC TOTAL 24-hour race was moved from mid-May to autumn. There are new dates for the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS), the Fisherman's Friend StrongmanRun and the comedy format "NightWash Live" as well. On the other hand, the traditional motorcyclist service „Anlassen“, which usually initiates the two-wheeler season at the Nürburgring, was cancelled without replacement. The Nürburgring provides up-to-date information on events that have already been cancelled or rescheduled on its website.

In spite of the difficult situation, the Nürburgring is trying to save the events affected by the Coronavirus for the current season. Everyone involved are working on postponing as many events as possible instead of having to cancel them without replacement. “It is undisputed that health is the first priority. That is why we support the activities of the authorities and do everything we can to help” says Nürburgring Managing Director Mirco Markfort. Among other things, the first two races of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie and the motorcycle service „Anlassen“ were canceled. The comedy format "NightWash Live", the Fisherman's Friend StrongmanRun, the qualifying race for the ADAC TOTAL 24h race are rescheduled for April and other events have also fallen victim to the global health situation.

Despite a number of cancellations, there are multiple alternative dates in place already, that allow an outlook to the second half of the year. This is good news, because in addition to the emotional value of the events for each fans, every date is also an important economic factor. “We are currently working on ensuring that the Nürburgring can continue to act as an economic engine for the region even after the crisis. A strong Nürburgring will be as important as rarely before. For this it is existential to postpone as many events as possible to a later point in the season instead of completely cancelling them, ” explains managing director Markfort.

The successful relocation of the motorsport highlights is of particular importance. In dialogue with the ADAC Nordrhein and the VLN as the organizer of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS), a new date could be found for the ADAC TOTAL 24h race. It will take place from September 24th to 27th in the Green Hell. Originally, an NLS race was to take place that weekend. “Good partnerships are confirmed in challenging times,” says Markfort. “The ADAC Nordrheinand and the VLN are a good example of this. This would not have been possible without the solution-oriented thinking of everyone involved. Now it's a win for the motorsport world, the Nürburgring and the entire region.”

The decision to move the 24-hour race is a novelty in the almost 50-year history of the event. Even though many details are still to be clarified, the organizers are planning to make up for the 24-hour race in September. „As the organizer of one of the largest events at the Nürburgring, we also feel a longstanding loyalty to the region around the ring“ explains Peter Meyer, the chairman of the ADAC Nordrhein. „That is why we want to do everything possible to complete the 24-hour race in September - despite the considerable additional financial expenditure for the ADAC Nordrhein. The upcoming economic consequences resulting from the current crisis will naturally affect the Eifel region as well. We hope to be able to make at least a small contribution to mitigating the consequences together with the partners of the ADAC TOTAL 24h race.”
The race track managers were also able to arrange new dates with other organizers. Due to the busy calendar, this year’s focus shifts to November, which now hosts the following events: the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (November 7), the sold-out comedy format "NightWash Live" in ring°kino (November 8) and Fisherman's Friend StrongmanRun (November 14th).
Already purchased tickets for the postponed events remain valid for the new dates. Tickets for postponed and cancelled events can be returned without cancellation fees. The information can be found at the respective ticket sales points.
