ADAC Racing Weekend with diverse finale at the Nürburgring

14.10.2022

The Nürburgring will be the venue for the finale of the ADAC Racing Weekend this coming weekend (14 - 16 October) as part of the ADAC Westfalen Trophy. In the Eifel, the fans will be offered a lot: spectacular cars in the Special Touring Car Trophy (STT), up-and-coming young drivers in the Touring Car Junior Cup as well as historic racing cars of various kinds from the Touring Car Legends to the AvD Historic Race Cup. In addition, there will be the ADAC Formula 4 and the Belcar Historic Cup for the first time this season. All races can be followed in the free livestream (youtube.com/adac), which goes on air at 8:40 a.m. on Saturday with the first round of the Porsche Club Historic Challenge (PCHC) and starts at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday with the start of round one of the Belcar Historic Cup.

Uwe Alzen (Audi R8 GT3 Evo) goes into the final weekend of the STT as the top favourite. For the Audi driver it has been an almost perfect season so far, only one race he could not win. But that was at the Nürburgring, of all places, when his brother Jürgen Alzen (Ford GT Turbo) saw the chequered flag in first place. Jürgen Alzen now wants to repeat this and he will give everything to bring his red Ford GT Turbo to the finish line in front of his brother's black and grey Audi R8 LMS.

The Touring Car Legends once again shine with big names in the starting field. Klaus Ludwig (AMG Mercedes C-Class ITC and Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evo II), Roland Asch (Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evo I) and Kurt Thiim (Mercedes 190 E 2.5-16 Evo II) do not want to miss the chance to drive their former cars on a race track once again. In the Touring Car Classic, the underbelly of the Legends, we will go even deeper into racing history with, among others, two Ford Capri and two Ford Escort from the 1970s. The Capri will be driven by Wim and Dieter Kuijl, while the Ford Escort RS2000 will be driven by Jens Weimann and the Ford Escort RS1800 is in the hands of Peter and Stefan Mücke from Berlin. In the field of the Touring Car Revival, the entry class of the legends, there are even cars from the 60s with the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT driven by Jörg Hoffmann and the Daimler-Benz 300 SE Heckflosse driven by Michael Sielaff. In the revival, the drivers contest two regularity tests.

"The ADAC Racing Weekends were once again an excellent platform for our three racing series Touring Car Legends, Touring Car Classic and Touring Car Revival," says Carsten Setzefand, Head of Sport and Events for the three touring car series. "On the one hand, we appreciate the professionalism of the ADAC, but on the other hand, we also appreciate the family atmosphere in the paddock on the part of the organisers. For us, this is the perfect symbiosis: very well organised events within a reasonable cost framework. A special highlight is the free live stream, which our fans wouldn't want to miss."

In the Touring Car Junior Cup, in which all drivers drive a uniform VW up! GTI, Leon Arndt has built a small lead over his first pursuer Linus Hahne; he leads the overall standings by eleven points ahead of Hahne. In addition, Arndt comes to the Eifel with fond memories, as he won both rounds at the Nürburgring in the summer. Hahne, on the other hand, has to be careful not to be pushed into third place in the final standings by Elias Olsen. The Dane showed good form at Hockenheim at the beginning of October, as did Fabio Rauer, who celebrated his first victory and is in fourth place in the standings.

The PCHC also goes into the final two races of 2022 at the Nürburgring. While Klaus Horn (Porsche 911 GT3 R) and Thomas Lindemann (Porsche 997 GT3 R) each won a race at the first appearance of an ADAC Racing Weekend this year in Assen, the Netherlands, Marvin Meister and Christian Voigtlänger (both Porsche 997 GT3 Cup) are battling it out for the title. The decision will be made next weekend. The same applies to the AvD Historic Race Cup, which features historic junior formula cars and Sports 2000 prototypes. Roberto Cocciarelli (Swift DB2 Ford) has the lead in the overall standings over Pascal Monbaron, who will be competing in a Van Diemen RF00. Stephan Lechine (Reynard F389 VW-Spiess) takes third place in the AvD Historic Race Cup ranking.

The ADAC Formula 4, in which the stars of tomorrow will compete, will celebrate its premiere at the ADAC Racing Weekend 2022. Among others, current Formula 1 drivers Mick Schumacher, Lando Norris and Guanyu Zhou have laid the foundation for their future careers in ADAC Formula 4. Currently, Andrea Kimi Antonelli holds first place in the overall standings; only the Briton Taylor Barnard can still take the title from the Italian.

The Belcar Historic Cup will also make its debut at the ADAC Racing Weekend 2022, with Dieter Kuijl (Ford Capri 2600 RS Weslake), Wim Kuijl (Ford Capri 3100 RS), Luc Moortgat (Porsche 964) and Tim Kuijl (BMW E36 325i) starting the final weekend as leaders of the various classes.

The programme starts at 8:05 a.m. on all three days. Friday will be opened by the first free practice of the ADAC Formula 4, Saturday by the free practice of the Belcar Historic Cup and on Sunday the Touring Car Junior Cup will start with the second timed practice. Friday will close with the end of the timed practice of the Touring Car Legends at 17:40, Saturday with the conclusion of the first regularity test of the Touring Car Revival at 17:35 and Sunday with the finish of the second race of the Touring Car Classic at 17:10.
