05.01.2023

The Nürburgring has been awarded the two-star environmental accreditation of the FIA, the world governing body for motor sport. After an extensive review process, the award recognises, among other things, the circuit's commitment to and initiatives for environmental sustainability, as well as its action plan for continuous improvement. The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme aims to help motorsport and mobility stakeholders worldwide measure and improve their environmental impact through an assessment process.

"We are delighted that our commitment has been recognised by the FIA with the environmental accreditation," explain the Managing Directors of Nürburgring 1927 GmbH & Co. KG, Christian Stephani and Ingo Böder. "As a world-renowned race track and event location, as well as a private company and regional economic driver, there is a pronounced effort on our part to harmonise economy and ecology and thus meet the multifaceted requirements."

Within the scope of the test procedure, Nürburgring 1927 GmbH & Co. KG scored points in various areas. These included 100% green electricity from hydroelectric power plants, investments in solar energy and intelligent measuring systems for efficient building energy control. The investments in the charging point infrastructure for electric vehicles also had a positive impact. This permanently installed infrastructure is available to all visitors to the Nürburgring and is to be further expanded. It is currently being temporarily expanded for events as needed.

With regard to noise emissions, the Nürburgring has a comprehensive noise protection concept with individual measures. Compliance is monitored by a permanent noise monitoring system, the data of which is transmitted to an independent institute for the monitoring of emissions. The racetrack operators voluntarily set themselves a limit sound level below the actual approved volume. Further fields of action within which the Nürburgring implements continuous improvement processes and plans optimisations are the careful use of water resources and responsible waste management.

With the certification achieved, Nürburgring 1927 GmbH & Co. KG is pleased to have taken an intermediate step. The company's clear goal is to further optimise and expand the measures. In this way, a contribution is also to be made in terms of environmental protection so that the Nürburgring will be a place of fascination, emotion and gathering for people from all over the world for many generations to come.
