Construction work at the Nürburgring successfully completed

07.03.2024

The new asphalt is officially ready for the 2024 season. Following a track inspection, the FIA and the German Motor Sport Federation have given the green light, thus officially confirming the go-ahead: Construction work at the Nürburgring has been successfully completed. Around one kilometer of the legendary Nordschleife and the exit of the pit lane of the Grand Prix circuit have been renewed. The Ring's operating company spent three million euros on the project. In addition, the construction work for the digitalization continued - the 11 million euro system will now be further developed in the coming months. The season starts on March 16 with the first opening of the barriers for the tourist rides. The first racing cars will follow on March 22 and 23 for the Nürburgring Endurance Series.

With the winter construction work, the Nürburgring operating company ensures almost every year that the tracks continue to meet the high demands of the new season and offer the best conditions for every vehicle. From high-engined GT3 cars in professional races to private vehicles in the tourist races or the models and components of the testing automotive and supplier industry.

This year, work focused on the comprehensive renovation of the fast and challenging "Fuchsröhre" section of the Nürburgring Nordschleife. A total of 4,000 tons of asphalt were laid in various layers over a length of one kilometer as part of a so-called full expansion.

As every year, special attention was paid to preserving the unique characteristics and the world-famous layout of the Green Hell. However, the bumps in the track surface that had formed over the years have disappeared. In addition to the work on the Nordschleife, there was also minor asphalt work on the Grand Prix circuit. Here, the asphalt surface of the pit lane exit was renewed.

Continuation of digitalization - supply with solar energy and green electricity
Another important focus of the winter work was on continuing the digitization of the Nordschleife. After the first half of the track had already been digitized by 2023, the remaining 12 kilometers - from the Breidscheid section in Adenau to the Galgenkopf - have now been digitized. In addition to the foundations and masts for 58 of a total of over 100 cameras, a total of 80 kilometers of electrical and data cables were laid and two off-grid systems were installed. These container-shaped systems have a high-tech interior with battery storage and a roof equipped with photovoltaics. They use solar energy to ensure the power supply of the digital system, including cameras, even in the remote sections of the 21-kilometer-long Nordschleife.

Where the digital infrastructure is powered by the Nürburgring's fixed power supply, the operating company also relies on natural power sources and sustainability, as the entire location is powered by 100% green electricity at all times. Whether at a small indoor event, at major events such as the 24-hour race and Rock am Ring or in the business premises of the resident companies of the Nürburgring destination such as the Nürburgring eSports Bar, the Nürburgring Hotels and Ferienpark managed by Lindner or in the Nürburgring.tv studio.

Looking forward to the start of the 2024 season
With the completion of the construction work, there is now a sense of anticipation for the 2024 Ring season. On March 16, the barriers will open for the first time for the tourist drives. The NES starts with its warm-up on March 22. Motorsport enthusiasts and event lovers can look forward to around 60 public events offering an eclectic mix of motorsport, music, sport and other indoor events.
