This weekend the Nürburgring will start again with the tourist drives on the Nordschleife. On Saturday, July 31st, at 9 a.m., the barriers will open for the first time since the flood disaster. At the same time, the paddock on the Grand-Prix track will remain the important operations center for emergency workers until August 15. This also means that this year's AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix has to be canceled. The event will take place next year from August 12th to 14th, 2022. The DTM, on the other hand, will be the first racing series to take place again as planned from August 20th to 22nd. With the resumption of track operations, the operators of the Nürburgring are taking an economically necessary step. The event location, which has already been hit by the Corona crisis, ensures the continued existence of the company itself, the companies in the region as well as the organizers and partners.
“We are trying to do our part in this crisis in every way. Be it as a central hub for emergency services and relief supplies or at the same time as an economic engine for the region,“ explains Nürburgring Managing Director Mirco Markfort. “It is important to provide help for the entire region: on the one hand, we have towns affected by the natural disaster and, on the other hand, many companies that are dependent on what is happening at the Nürburgring - they are currently in the main season.” The racetrack is currently moving in a field of tension out of economic necessity and personal concern. Even employees of the racetrack as well as their families and friends were partly hit hard by the storm. The Nürburgring itself was spared, the infrastructure completely intact.
Arrival without disturbing rescue work
While the helicopters of the German armed forces continue to emerge from the Grand-Prix paddock and emergency services deploy to their missions, the barriers of the Nordschleife will open again on Saturday for tourist rides for the first time. The Nürburgring has published information on how to get there so that the arriving visitors neither hinder the work in the region nor use the access roads of the affected regions. 49th AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix canceled - DTM takes place as planned
Since the Grand-Prix paddock of the Nürburgring is still used as an operations center, the 49th AvD-Oldtimer-Grand-Prix cannot take place. The event was therefore canceled for this year. The date for 2022 has already been set. The internationally important classic car event will take place from August 12th to 14th next year. Tickets remain valid. Anyone who would like to have the entry price reimbursed in an uncomplicated manner can find all the information they need on the racetrack's website.
The first racing series will be the DTM at the Nürburgring from August 20th to 22nd. The starting field of 19 drivers and five manufacturers will compete on the 3.629 kilometer sprint route. The supporting races include the DTM Trophy, the DTM Classic Touring Car Legends, the BMW M2 Cup and the Lotus Cup Europe.
