The Nürburgring is cancelling the planned weekend events for the time being up to and including 8 August. These include the FIA World Rallycross Championship and the ADAC Racing Weekend (30 July - 1 August) as well as the ADAC GT Masters (6 - 8 August). The reason for the cancellation is the continuing emergency situation in the district of Ahrweiler and the stationing of various emergency forces at the Nürburgring.
Those responsible have already been able to find a new date for the FIA World Rallycross Championship at the Nürburgring. The race series will now come to the Eifel on 27 and 28 November. Tickets remain valid, further information for ticket holders will be sent by e-mail. New dates for the ADAC GT Masters and the ADAC Racing Weekend are currently being reviewed in cooperation with the organisers. The circuit provides information on the dates of all other Nürburgring events - such as tourist drives, formula trainings and the like - on its website.
Emergency Forces Currently Using Nürburgring as Base Camp
At present, the police, the Bundeswehr, the rescue service as well as the fire brigade and the disaster control service from all over Germany are using the Nürburgring and its infrastructure as a central base camp. They start from here to the affected areas of the district of Ahrweiler. Minister President Malu Dreyer also took a look at the situation at the race track on wednesday. "The Nürburgring has become an unprecedented place of help and solidarity in this flood disaster," Dreyer said. Currently, the organisations are using more than 60,000 m² of the Nürburgring grounds. This includes the paddock as well as adjacent event areas and parking spaces.
In the Bitburger Event Center, in the ring°arena and in the ring°boulevard, many donations in kind are currently still being sorted by volunteers. The distribution to the villages will be done by helicopters and vehicles of the emergency services. However, affected citizens can also pick up needed items themselves at the Bitburger Event Center. Nürburgring CEO Mirco Markfort is deeply impressed by the willingness to help: "Every day hundreds of volunteers help to alleviate the need in the region. I express my deepest gratitude to them." The office for donations in kind had been set up by the Nürburgring together with the ADAC Mittelrhein after the Int. ADAC Truck-Grand-Prix was cancelled.
Anyone who would like to help can still do so.
The Kreissparkasse Ahrweiler has set up an emergency aid account for those affected:
IBAN: DE 86577513100000339457
BIC: MALADE51AHR
Donations in kind are no longer needed.
