Lots of fog, no visibility and constantly changing schedules as a result. But the weather drama in the Eifel could not slow down the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) on its comeback at the Nürburgring. On two days, all classes spent hours in the fog and several training sessions were canceled. But when the veil lifted and even the sun made its way through the clouds, there was no stopping the drivers in the predicate and cup classes. It was all about the final spurt before the finale in Hockenheim in three weeks' time. In the top class IDM Superbike, Ilya Mikhalchik on a BMW took the title early. The Superbikes took to the track on Sunday in glorious conditions at the foot of the Nürburg. Was it going to be a dream day for 28-year-old BMW rider Ilya Mikhalchik to win the title early? His only remaining rival was defending Honda champion Florian Alt. However, after his disastrous crash two weeks ago in Assen, in which he suffered deep lacerations to his right hand, he had little hope of winning. But he was not going to give up without a fight. Only on the starting grid did he admit: “I'm in a lot of pain, but I'll give it a go.” Mikhalchik won the race after a fierce battle with his Estonian BMW colleague Hannes Soomer. Third place went to Toni Finsterbusch (BMW). On the podium were a Ukrainian, an Estonian and a German. Alt finished a brilliant fifth despite his damaged hand. In the second race, Mikhalchik had to finish in the top 13. The title was almost handed to him on a silver platter. All he had to do was grab it. After 18 laps over 3.618 kilometers, it was finally clear: The 28-year-old Ukrainian is IDM champion in the top class ahead of schedule and for the fourth time. Mikhalchik's partner Milana, mother Ludmilla, his aunt and even his grandmother had come to the Nürburgring to celebrate their personal superstar, who returned to the paddock for the award ceremony after his great triumph with the blue and yellow flag of Ukraine. He would have loved to crown his success with another victory, but this was snatched by Hannes Soomer. The Estonian entered the history books of the IDM Superbike as the new winner. An unleashed Lorenzo Zanetti, who caught his opponents one-two, finished third. The Italian slipped past Finsterbusch on his Ducati in the final laps and thus prevented BMW from taking all the positions, as in the first race. Florian Alt crossed the finish line in fifth place and had hellish pain in his hand. But that's Florian Alt: giving up is not an option. Twan Smits (Yamaha) won both races in the IDM Supersport. It is too late for the title fight, but the current runner-up showed that the competition must always reckon with him despite his mixed season. Dirk Geiger took two second places on his Honda, the best weekend result for the manufacturer to date. And “Lucky Luc” Luca Göttlicher had sprinted onto the podium in third place after the first race from eleventh on the grid.Championship leader Andreas Kofler (Yamaha) did not get a chance in the Eifel. He missed the start in the second race. This was unusual, as the Austrian is actually known for his lightning starts. The fact that Smits and Geiger were ahead of him didn't bother him much in terms of the overall standings, as neither of them play a role in the title fight. Kofler just had to make sure that his direct rival Luca de Vleeschauwer (Triumph) stayed behind him. And that was the case. Third place this time went to Daniel Blin (Ducati), but that was pure damage limitation. The Pole had crashed in the first race. The airbag in his leather suit deployed. Blin was able to leave the run-off zone physically unharmed. Statistically, however, the incident finally knocked him out of the title fight and Lennox Lehmann (Yamaha) also overtook him in the overall standings and is now third overall. The Freudenberg KTM-PALIGO Racing team-mates had a thrilling battle in the Supersport 300 at the Nürburgring. In the first race, Phillip Tonn continued his winning streak with a third triumph, which he had previously started with a double victory in Assen. The German seemed to have finally made his breakthrough, leaving Ruben Bijman and Oliver Svendsen in second and third place. However, Svendsen subsequently lost his podium place to Dutchman Dylan Czarkowski (Yamaha) due to a penalty and therefore finished fourth. In the second race, the Dane promptly responded to this setback and secured victory ahead of Bijman and Tonn. With this success, Svendsen extended his lead in the championship and heads to the final two races with a comfortable 30-point advantage.

By foot, by bike, in your own car, in a classic car or by bus: everyone can experience the Nürburgring in their own way. One of the highlights: The Green Hell Driving Days for passionate car and motorcycle drivers. This year, these special tourist drives take place on the Whitsun weekend (May 18 - 20). Meanwhile, if you want to conquer the route with muscle power, the cycling and running club is the right place for you. If you want to take your own classic car out for a spin, you can do so as part of the After Work Classics on the Grand Prix circuit. And if you want a real racing driver to explain the Green Hell up close, there is the Trackwalk Nordschleife. Tourist drives and Green Hell Driving DaysThe Green Hell Driving Days attract Nordschleife fans from all over the world to the Eifel every year. Three days of tourist driving in a row are a good reason for a visit, especially for international Ring enthusiasts. And so, from May 18 to 20, license plates from all over the world will once again be seen on the Nordschleife. A Whitsun visit to the Nürburgring is definitely worthwhile - even if you just want to watch and soak up the atmosphere. This year, the Nürburgring is also extending its evening sessions on the Grand Prix circuit for tourist drives. On May 14, June 19 and July 23 and 30, car and motorcycle drivers can experience the race track for themselves - in each case until 8:45 pm. Classics, bikes and thrilling endurance motorsport: numerous events will be held at the Nürburgring in the coming weeks. At the end of May, the racing world will be looking to the Eifel for the prestigious ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring (May 30 - June 2). The week before, the Nürburgring Classic (May 24 - 26) invites you to a three-day celebration of historic motorsport. Two-wheeler fans will get their money's worth with the motorcycle double-header of the ADAC DMC Race Weekend (May 9 - 11) and the Cologne circuit (May 12). The “May highlights” will kick off with the race premiere of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (May 3 - 4), which will also be the teams' last test of strength before the 24-hour race. For a quarter of a century, motorcyclists have been meeting at the "Anlassen" motorcycle service at the Nürburgring for their traditional season opener. Just in time for the 25th anniversary, there was a record number of visitors. Over 45,000 bikers came from all over Germany and neighboring countries. To ensure that there was room for everyone, this time not only the Grand Prix paddock was opened up as a parking area, but also the start and finish straight of the Grand Prix circuit. So there was plenty of room for the motorcycles and small talk among enthusiasts. The emotional highlight was the joint parade around the Nordschleife - another well-established tradition. Once again this year, thousands of bikers rode along the world's most famous 20.832 kilometers at the end of the event, creating impressive images. Shortly beforehand, they had received a blessing at the ecumenical church service. But the day was also dedicated to motorcycling. While younger visitors were able to try out small motorcycles in the children's area of the POLO motorcycle brand, adults had the opportunity to test their bikes on the test stand. At the same time, the ADAC Driving Safety Center at the Nürburgring, the Rhineland-Palatinate state police and the German Red Cross offered exciting presentations and demonstrations. Not far away, the Medical Center attracted numerous visitors, where director Armin Link provided fascinating insights behind the scenes of the race track hospital. After "Anlassen", further motorcycle events await at the Ring this year. It's finally motorcycle time again: the Nürburgring invites you to the traditional season opening. Thousands of bikers are once again expected in the Eifel on Sunday, April 28 for the "Anlassen" motorcycle service. Demonstrations, a food court and exhibitors will attract visitors to the Ring paddock until well into the afternoon, before "Anlassen" reaches its climax with the ecumenical church service and the joint parade around the Nordschleife. Admission to the event and participation in the parade are free of charge. Further information are available at www.nuerburgring.de. Thousands of bikers and their joint ride over the famous 20.832 kilometers of the Green Hell: The parade is an extraordinary experience for motorcyclists every year. Beforehand, the focus is on the traditional blessing of the bikers and their machines at the ecumenical church service - held by Pastor Kohnz and Pastor Wink - combined with the request for a safe journey at all times. The opening of the motorcycle season on Sunday, April 28, will culminate in a church service (3:15 p.m.) and parade (4:30 p.m.). The gates to the Grand Prix paddock will open early in the morning. Bikers and visitors are invited from 8 am. In addition to thousands of two-wheelers and just as many like-minded people celebrating this day together at the Nürburgring, around 20 exhibitors have also announced their attendance. They will be presenting all kinds of useful and new motorcycle-related products. As an official partner of the event, clothing and accessories retailer POLO, for example, will be running a test stand where anyone can precisely determine the performance of their motorcycle, as well as its own Kids World with a driving course and pocket bikes. In the show zone, visitors can marvel at a wide variety of demonstrations throughout the day - including from the Rhineland-Palatinate state police, the German Red Cross and the ADAC Nürburgring Driving Safety Center. The Stefan Morsch Foundation is once again calling on people to register as potential lifesavers by providing a saliva sample. The traditional motorbike service "Anlassen" found its crowning conclusion on Sunday afternoon with the parade over the Nordschleife. According to police estimates, a total of 7,000 bikers took part in the ride through the Green Hell. This large response had not been expected at first. Due to bad weather and fog, the motorbike event had initially started with only about 2,000 bikers in the Grand Prix paddock of the Nürburgring. "Anlassen" marks the start of the two-wheeler season at the Nürburgring every year. For those who came to the event this year, there were various programme items in the Grand Prix paddock - for example, various demonstrations by the Rhineland-Palatinate state police, the German Red Cross, the driving safety centre or the motorbike brand POLO. In addition, around 25 exhibitors on the subject of motorbikes awaited the visitors, as well as a look behind the scenes during guided tours of the Nürburgring Medical Centre. Before the joint parade, the bikers received the blessing of Auxiliary Bishop Jörg Michael Peters, Pastor Klaus Kohnz and Pastor Claudia Rössling-Marenbach at the ecumenical church service.
