Defending its title: Scherer-Audi takes provisional pole position

19.06.2025

A perfect start for the defending champion: on Thursday evening, the #1 Scherer Audi made the first major statement at the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring 2025. Christopher Haase set the fastest lap of the day with a time of 8:10.580 minutes, securing a dominant entry into Friday’s Top Qualifying session (starting at 1:20 p.m.) for the completely new driver line-up. Haase had already been the fastest driver on the track during the first qualifying session in the early afternoon and managed to improve his time by nearly four seconds in the evening. "Christopher went out right at the beginning when the track was clear. That lap was just superb," said teammate Luca Ludwig. The driver trio is completed by Markus Winkelhock. In addition to the #1 Scherer Audi, two Lamborghinis, one Aston Martin, and the #16 Scherer Porsche secured the remaining five open spots for the Top Qualifying on Thursday. Twelve cars had already pre-qualified. Italy’s Marco Mapelli and South African Jordan Pepper put the Abt Lamborghinis #28 and #27 into the shootout for pole position. Also securing coveted Top Qualifying slots were Italy’s Mattia Drudi in the #34 Walkenhorst Aston Martin and Laurens Vanthoor in the #16 Porsche from Scherer PHX. This first highlight of the weekend — where the Glickenhaus Trophy will also be awarded to the pole-sitter — can be watched live starting at 1:00 p.m. on RTL+ and from 1:15 p.m. via the livestream at www.24h-rennen.de/live. On-site, the Nürburgring Nordschleife is already well attended under summery weather conditions, but there’s still room for last-minute fans. Tickets are available at the open box offices and digitally throughout the event weekend at https://www.24h-rennen.de/ticketbestellung/. After the third qualifying session (4:15–5:45 p.m.) and the second race of the Touring Car Legends (6:30–6:55 p.m.), the Nürburgring will be all about the fans. First, drifting artists from Falken and Monster will visit spectators along the Nordschleife in a parade lap before showcasing their skills during the traditional Falken Drift Show at the Müllenbachschleife. At the same time, a pit walk through the pit lane including an autograph session with the drivers will take place. The race weekend had already begun on Wednesday evening with the comeback of the Adenau Racing Day, which had been canceled last year to the disappointment of many loyal motorsport fans due to roadworks in the town center of the racing city. In front of a large crowd of fans, a colorful parade of around 30 race cars from various classes wound its way down the main street towards the city center and the big show stage at the marketplace, where hosts Olli Martini and Patrick Simon were already waiting to introduce the drivers and teams.

Kevin Estre takes pole position for the ‘Grello’

19.06.2025

Kevin Estre has secured pole position in the ‘Grello’ at the 53rd running of the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring. The 36-year-old Frenchman was also the fastest in the #911 Manthey Porsche on Friday in the battle for the final grid positions in top qualifying. With a time of 8:12.741 minutes, he was almost 1.2 seconds faster than Thomas Neubauer in the #45 Rinaldi-Ferrari, who completed an all-French front row in 8:13.909 minutes. Estre thus secured the Glickenhaus Trophy for the pole man for the first time, which will be handed over tomorrow before the start of the race. Three-time fastest driver in practice, Maro Engel, finished third this time in the #14 Getspeed Mercedes-AMG (8:14.233 minutes). For Manthey, the pole position of the ‘Grello’ is a perfect starting position to crown himself the sole record winner again with a possible eighth overall victory. Estre: ‘Did my job’"There's nothing better than driving a lap of the Nordschleife alone in the “Grello”, with new tyres and no traffic. It's incredible,‘ said Kevin Estre: ’I'm really looking forward to the weekend. We have great conditions, maybe a bit too warm for the tyres, but good for the fans. We'll let Thomas Preining drive the start tomorrow, I've done my job for the weekend." Six different manufacturers in the top eight placesThomas Neubauer was not entirely satisfied: "It was a very good qualifying session for us, but I'm a little disappointed. Second place makes you a bit of a loser. But of course, second place is still a very good result for us. We have worked very hard over the past few months. But the main focus is on tomorrow, on the race." Maro Engel explained: "It hasn't been an easy weekend for us so far. The team has done a very good job and given me a very good car. Nevertheless, the gap to the front is bigger than we would like it to be. But anything is certainly possible from third place. Being at the front also minimises the risk at the start." In total, there are three different brands in the top three positions and, with one Lamborghini, Audi and Aston Martin each, six in the top eight grid positions. Red flag after Laurens Vanthoor's accidentLaurens Vanthoor caused a major scare and a red flag. The Belgian, who had only managed to get his team into top qualifying at the last minute on Thursday evening, lost control of the #16 Scherer Porsche on his first flying lap in the Aremberg area and crashed into the crash barrier at high speed. After a check-up at the Medical Centre, the doctors treating the driver gave the all-clear for the time being, but the car is no longer operational and will not take part in the race. Top qualifying was restarted at 16:00 after a longer break and repair work on the crash barrier. Qualifying 3 then started, in which the final grid positions were determined from the ninth row onwards. Tickets still availableWhen the starting grid for the 24h Nürburgring is drawn on Saturday, the ‘race of the year’ can finally get underway at 16:00. But before the 136 participants embark on the spectacular fight through the day and this time the shortest night, a varied programme awaits the spectators at the Nürburgring. The thrilling motorsport on the track starts at 9.00 am with the ADAC 24h-Classic. After the warm-up for the main race at 12.20 pm, the touring car legends will contest their third race of the weekend at 1.20 pm. Tickets are still available at the box offices and digitally here. Comprehensive live reports on NITRO, YouTube and the 24h homepageIf you want to follow the action at the Ring from home, free TV partner NITRO is the right place to go, starting its 28-hour non-stop live broadcast at 13:00 and aiming to extend its own world record on the occasion of the tenth anniversary at the Ring. The official live streams on YouTube and on the official event website will also be on air non-stop.

The racing week of the year has begun

16.06.2025

The ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring is transforming the region around the legendary race track into a party zone this week. Since Monday (June 16), the forests around the Ring have been open for camping, and by the time the first wheels start turning on Corpus Christi (Thursday, June 19), tens of thousands will have set up camp there to create a festival atmosphere that is already legendary. After the qualifying days on Thursday and Friday, the 141 participants will be ready to go on Saturday (June 21) at 4:00 p.m. Then the exciting question will be whether the favored Porsche 911 GT3 R will prevail or one of the other eight brands represented in the top class. Anyone who wants to experience this spectacular battle at the Ring live can secure their ticket online at any time during the event. For the first time, the 24h is offering the option of saving your ticket on your mobile device, so you no longer need to make a detour to the box office, which is open on all event days. The battle for the 53rd overall victory at the season's highlight on the Nordschleife will be fiercer than ever this year: the largest starting field since 2019 is divided into a total of 20 classes. Around 450 drivers from 34 nations will attempt the endurance test on the world's longest race track. Among them are 27 GT3 cars, which are likely to battle it out for victory. The size of the leading group alone indicates that it will be a tough fight, and the top teams are fielding excellent driver line-ups across the board. Everyone is chasing PorscheAfter a series of victories in all the preparatory races in the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) and the 24h Qualifiers, the Porsche teams are considered the favorites. Falken Motorsports, Manthey EMA, and Scherer PHX secured these victories and now find themselves in the role of the hunted. Some of the hunters come from their own stable – in the form of last year's winning Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II from Scherer PHX. Other top teams are relying on other brands: BMW (Rowe), Mercedes-AMG (GetSpeed), Aston Martin (Walkenhorst), Ford (HRT), Realize Kondo (Ferrari), and Abt (Lamborghini) are the frontrunners, with other teams just waiting for their chance to take overall victory. The 24-hour weekend promises plenty of motorsport entertainmentThere will be plenty of other motorsport excitement at the 24h Nürburgring, because in addition to the battle for overall victory, winner's trophies will be awarded in 19 other, often fiercely contested classes. The sporting support program also promises exciting entertainment. The traditional performance test of the Rundstrecken Challenge Nürburgring (RCN) will kick off the action on Thursday morning. The touring car legends and the Cup and Touring Car Trophy will offer five races from Thursday to Saturday. Another absolute highlight will be the ADAC 24h Classic, in which the starting field is completely booked out with the maximum possible number of 210 historic vehicles. Full program – also off the trackThe gigantic fan program will also ensure that the expected 200,000 visitors are well entertained. The weekend will get underway on Wednesday (June 15) at 4:00 p.m. with the Adenauer Racing Day. The racing town on the Ring will then host autograph sessions, a parade of race cars, driver interviews, and much more. On Thursday, the fan zone on the ring°boulevard will open, along with the many attractions around the RAVENOL Ferris wheel in the paddock. On Friday evening, the Falken Drift Show in the Müllenbachschleife and the big 24-hour autograph session with the opportunity to walk the pit lane and track at the start/finish line are on the program starting at 7:30 p.m. Many more fan offers can be found in the fan schedule here. Even more service: simplified ticket procedure, WhatsApp channel for visitorsThe 24h Nürburgring is one of the largest motorsport events in Germany – 240,000 fans flocked to the Eifel region last race weekend. To give you an even better experience, the organizers have further improved their fan service. A new WhatsApp channel provides information about parking and camping availability as well as important visitor news as soon as you arrive. Also important to know: All tickets purchased in advance will be exchanged for a visitor wristband at all entrances on site. This means that there is no longer any need to make a detour to the box office, saving you from having to wait in line.

24h race: tips for fans

13.06.2025

When it's time for the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring, many visitors consider it a trip to heaven in the (green) hell: for a week, the race track is firmly in the hands of horsepower enthusiasts, who transform the usually tranquil forests into a gigantic camping area. Last year, 240,000 visitors were counted during the four days of the festival, many of whom traditionally put in a lot of their own effort to turn their camping “claims” into a small fan paradise. Visitors can also look forward to many other attractions to enhance their visit – from a ride on the Ferris wheel, which title sponsor RAVENOL is having built in the paddock, to the drift show on Friday evening in the Müllenbachschleife. Of course, there will also be plenty of opportunities to meet the protagonists themselves: autograph sessions, panel discussions, and pit walks are among the regular fixtures. If you don't want to miss anything and would like to receive important visitor information, subscribe to the new WhatsApp fan channel, where the organizers also provide information on the traffic situation and campsite occupancy. As always, the official fan offers are concentrated around the start/finish area. Fans should not miss a stroll along the fan mile on the ring°boulevard. Many companies and partners will be there to invite visitors to take a ride in a racing seat, provide information about their services, exhibit exciting vehicles, and offer a whole range of attractions. On Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m., there will even be a world premiere, as Volkswagen will be presenting its brand-new anniversary model at the Nürburgring – the VW Golf GTI Edition 50! Many attractions also await in the paddockOf course, a stroll through the paddock is also a must. This is where the teams, tire suppliers, and their service crews are at work, and where you can meet race drivers, team bosses, and other exciting participants in this mega-event. But there are also two important areas that are particularly aimed at fans: On the helipad (next to the medical center), a catering area with numerous offerings has been set up in the shadow of the RAVENOL Ferris wheel. A relaxation zone with seating and a large video wall invite you to linger. Mercedes-AMG is running its fan base here with many offerings, and Monster Energy is even setting up its own action area with drift demonstrations. The Monster DJ will provide music. Incidentally, on Friday and Saturday, you can do something very meaningful and register as a stem cell donor free of charge at the DKMS typing campaign! Next door, on the “multi-area,” there are other industry partners, manufacturers, and racing services to discover. It's also worth making the trip because the 24h Classic paddock zone is right next door in the Mercedes-AMG Arena, where you can admire the amazing historic vehicles up close. At the start of the paddock, opposite the gas station and technical inspection, you'll also find the “Hospi Zone.” This is where some of the larger partners are located and several car manufacturers are showcasing interesting vehicles. On tour around the RingStarting on Thursday, a shuttle service will be available for visitors, connecting the most important spectator areas on the Nordschleife with the Grand Prix circuit at regular intervals. One of the buses will already be running on Wednesday from the Pflanzgarten and Brünnchen spectator areas to Adenau and back approximately every half hour. And of course, the racing town on the Ring is worth a visit on all event days. Melanie Koch's REWE supermarket at the entrance to the town is one of the most important supply points for fans and has extra-long opening hours and lots of great offers and promotions for visitors during the race week. First highlight of the long 24-hour week: Adenauer Racing DayFrom 8:00 a.m. on Monday morning, the camping sites around the Nordschleife will be opened to visitors, and from then on, a stream of fans will pour into the Eifel region. Those who arrive early can stop by the paddock on Tuesday, where technical inspections of the competition vehicles will begin at noon. On Wednesday, Adenauer Racing Day in the center of the racing town on the Ring will kick off the official program. Starting at 4:00 p.m., there will be lots of information, meet-and-greets, and autograph opportunities with the drivers and their vehicles. Race car driver Christopher Haase will provide a highlight himself. He is known for driving the #1 Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II from Scherer Sport PHX with Luca Ludwig, which won the 24h Nürburgring last year. However, he is coming to Adenau with a rare Mercedes-Benz 190 16V, which he would like to have signed by Klaus Ludwig. This is because Haase's teammate's famous father will be driving the Racing Day in one of the two reissued HWA Evos, which fans in Adenau will be able to admire and which will be on display in the paddock for the rest of the weekend. Racing driver Vincent Kolb also has some special automotive souvenirs with him: he will be showing two Audi R8 LMS cars from his collection in Adenau, both of which have won the 24-hour race. They will be on display at the ring°boulevard over the weekend. It's racing time from Thursday! On Thursday morning, the RCN performance test will take over the wake-up call at the Nordschleife at 8:15 a.m., and from then on there will be non-stop action on the race track. The first two qualifying sessions for the 24-hour race at noon and in the evening are, of course, a must, and the evening practice session until 11:30 p.m. will give you that real endurance feeling for the first time. Friday evening is fan timeOn Friday afternoon, the top qualifying session marks the sporting highlight of the day, before the third qualifying session in the afternoon determines the starting positions in the 20 race classes of the starting field. Once all 24-hour teams know their starting positions and drivers and teams are making their final preparations for the start of the big race on Saturday, it's time for the fans to shine. The event kicks off with selected drift artists from Falken and Monster, who will take to the Nordschleife at 6:00 p.m. for an extra lap and show off their skills at the main spectator points. From there, they will head straight to the Müllenbachschleife, where the Falken Drift Show will start at 7:30 p.m. Parallel to this horsepower party, the gate to the pit lane will open at the start/finish line, and fans are invited to take part in a track walk and pit walk. During the big autograph session, the drivers will wait for fans in front of each pit and look forward to signing countless autographs and taking selfies. A last friendly breather before the big day! Starting Saturday, the race will be the center of attention twice around the clockFrom Saturday at 4 p.m., there will be only one thing on everyone's mind: the 24h Nürburgring and the question of who will come out on top in the marathon. However, the time until then will not be boring: in the morning, the ADAC 24h Classic with 210 starters will provide top entertainment, and after race 3 of the touring car legends, the traditional countdown to the start will begin. Parades on the Nordschleife, the presentation of the Glickenhaus Cup to the pole-setter, and finally the formation lap will then finally signal the start of the 24-hour race.

Top line-up for the Nordschleife classic

04.06.2025

A large field of competitors will gather at the Nürburgring Nordschleife for the highlight of the season: The starting list for the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring (June 19–22, 2025) has finally been officially announced, and it is stronger than it has been in years: Over 140 cars will compete for the prestigious trophy on Corpus Christi weekend, which is sure to be hotly contested. In the top class of GT3 cars alone, teams from eight different manufacturers will battle it out for overall victory! And across the starting field, extremely promising fights are shaping up in the 20 classes, some of which are very strongly contested. All signs point to fantastic racing for this full-throttle festival, which fans should not miss. The defending champion's #1 starting number belongs to Scherer Sport PHX this year, and the team would love to clinch its eighth overall victory in team history with the Audi R8 LMS GT3 evo II. Christopher Haase, Luca Ludwig, and Markus Winkelhock will attempt to do so. And although Audi has officially withdrawn from GT3 racing and the picture-perfect R8s are now considered “young used cars,” two pole positions in the previous NLS races for the Juta team's Audi show that the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer is still a force to be reckoned with on the racetrack. A total of four Audi R8s will compete, with Scherer PHX facing stiff competition from within its own team in the form of the Porsche 911 GT3 R, which the team from the Eifel region has been using since this year – because the “911s” have been the benchmark on the Nordschleife in 2025 so far. Porsche is the benchmark for this year's 24hA Porsche 911 GT3 R crossed the finish line as the winner in all races of this year's Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS). Most recently, Scherer PHX scored a double victory in the two 24h Qualifiers, which also count towards the NLS. Falken Motorsports won the first two NLS races, and Manthey EMA also took home a winner's trophy with the “Grello” 911 with the distinctive #911 start number.  Manthey, like Scherer PHX, is the leader in the race's all-time statistics with seven 24-hour overall victories to date. It is sending an excellent team of drivers to the start and, like Scherer PHX and Falken, is one of the close circle of Porsche contenders for victory. With a total of seven cars, the 911 GT3 R is also numerically the most represented in the GT3 class. The Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 Evo and the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 are also represented four times each. Strong driver line-ups and fascinating GT3 carsThe Mercedes-AMG GT3s were once again among the frontrunners this year. Two of the three cars on the starting grid are fielded by Mercedes-AMG Team GetSpeed, which can also rely on extremely fast and reliable drivers. New to the GT3 lineup is the Ford Mustang GT3, which is sure to make fans of American pony cars salivate. HRT Ford Performance is sending the new GT3s onto the track, with many Nordschleife specialists behind the wheel. Finally, the BMW M4 GT3 Evo from Rowe Racing and the Ferrari 296 GT3 fielded by Realize Kondo Racing can be considered “exotics,” as there will only be one of each on the starting grid. In the case of Rowe, fans can always expect a surprise, as the team relies on very successful GT3 drivers who are also very familiar with the Nordschleife. Strong line-up for the “class battle”A total of over 140 vehicles will line up at the start this year in 20 classes ranging from production cars to GT3. In addition to the highly competitive SP9 (GT3), other classes also stand out, where fierce battles are expected. The two Cup classes reserved for specific Porsche models have almost two dozen participants, some of whom like to “poach” in the GT3 field, especially in wet weather. Ten GT4 cars from five different manufacturers also make the category of the supposedly “smaller” GTs a competitive and exciting affair. At the other end of the performance scale, the “small” production cars in VT2 offer a wide variety of brands and participants. There are six front-wheel drive cars in the field, ten rear-wheel drive cars, and a total of six brands. Not to forget the fleet of vehicles powered by alternative fuels. A total of eleven vehicles are at the start in this booming category, demonstrating that fuels with an increasingly high non-fossil content could be a model for the future. Many exciting starters ensure top-class entertainmentWhen the wheels finally start turning in the first qualifying session on Corpus Christi Thursday, spectators can also look forward to some exotic cars that traditionally hold a special place in the hearts of fans. These include the Dacia Logan (#300), which “Ollis Garage” is fielding in SP3T, and the “White Angel” VW Beetle RSR (#13), which is competing in the same class and was built and tuned from scratch by Bernd Albrecht's team. But the two small BMW 318ti (#275 / #277), which MDM Racing is fielding with the help of RAVENOL, also deserve a special round of applause. Built with a lot of private initiative and enthusiasm, the horsepower underdogs from Ensdorf are among the thoroughbred private teams that make up an important part of the 24h family. The Porsche 997 of the Saugmotoren Motorsport team (#97) can be seen in a similar light – probably the last representative of the sixth generation of the 911 produced until 2012 in the field. But there are also brand-new models. Dörr Motorsport is fielding a McLaren Artura Trophy Evo (#59) in the SP8T, which is making its debut at the 24h Nürburgring. This marks the brand's return to the race for the first time since 2014. The Lynk & Co brand will make its very first appearance, becoming the 68th make to enter the eternal statistics. The Lynk&o 03 TCR #827 will be fielded by Fancy by Teamwork Motorsport for an all-Chinese team of drivers in the AT3 class. The list of exciting entries, debuts, and interesting details could go on and on, demonstrating that the 24h Nürburgring remains a playground and showcase for ambitious teams, exciting technology, and automotive innovation in its 53rd edition.

The Nordschleife at its best during the 24-hour qualifiers

25.05.2025

Successful Prologue for the ADAC RAVENOL 24h Nürburgring from June 19 to 22: The ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers offered everything that defines endurance racing on the legendary Nordschleife. Demanding weather and track conditions, thrilling racing action, and dramatic developments. Not only did the weekend whet the appetite for the season highlight in June, but it also provided the perfect opportunity for teams to fine-tune their preparations. In Saturday evening’s rain-soaked opening race, the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) from Scherer PHX came out on top—and the reigning 24h champions repeated the feat in Sunday’s race as well. After 27 laps, Laurens Vanthoor was waved across the line ahead of the Falken Motorsports #33 Porsche and the Manthey EMA #911. Now, teams have just under four weeks to prepare for the 24h race—and after this eventful weekend, they’ll take home plenty of valuable insights. In Sunday’s Top Qualifying session, GetSpeed claimed pole with their #14 Mercedes-AMG GT3 and immediately engaged in a spectacular first-lap battle with the Scherer PHX Porsche. As the track dried quickly, both leaders came into the pits after just one lap to switch to slicks—followed by a host of other teams. The resulting shuffle in the field provided plenty of excitement as the race progressed. After the first hour, it was the Manthey EMA Porsche 911 GT3 R #911 that held the lead. Having skipped qualifying due to repairs, the team had started from the back of the first starting group. By mid-race, things had settled somewhat, with the Abt Lamborghini #27 also taking turns at the front, alongside GetSpeed and the Porsches from Scherer Sport PHX (#16) and Falken Motorsports (#33). Ultimately, Scherer PHX’s strategy proved to be the winning one, with Laurens Vanthoor bringing home the victory in the blue “Elfer” of the reigning 24h champions. “The fact that it started raining again on the final lap made it unnecessarily exciting,” the Belgian driver grinned. “But overall, everything went great for us. We were able to push at all times, and the tires lasted through the eight-lap stints.” Teammate Patrick Pilet was also pleased: “A double victory this weekend is a mega start for both of us and perfect preparation for the 24h. Conditions today once again showed why the Nordschleife is called the ‘Green Hell’—starting with a drying track, racing in the dry, and then rain just before the end.” Mühlner Porsche Loses NLS LeadSince both 24h Qualifiers races also count toward the ADAC Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS), extra attention was paid to the battle within the various classes. The team of Arne Hoffmeister and Tim Scheerbarth had arrived as unbeaten leaders of the Cup 2 Porsche class and, together with David Jahn, defended their NLS lead with another class win in Saturday’s race. In the second heat, they looked on course for another victory—but ultimately fell short, and with that, they also lost the overall NLS lead. That top spot is now shared by two teams following class wins on Sunday: Nick Wüstenhagen, Ranko Mijatovic, and Tobias Wahl took victory for FK Performance Motorsport in the SP8T class with their #187 BMW M4 GT4, while the Adrenalin Motorsport Team Mainhattan Wheels (#650) won the Cup class for BMW M240i Racing Cup cars, fielding drivers Sven Markert, Kevin Wambach, and Adrian Rziczny. All Signs Point to a Thrilling 24h in JuneWith three NLS weekends and now the two 24h Qualifiers races completed, teams are entering the final phase of preparations for the race of the year. Porsche heads into the season highlight as the provisional favorite, having dominated the NLS season and won both Qualifiers races—five victories in total is a strong statement. But the top group is likely to feature seven other manufacturers: Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Ford, Lamborghini, and Mercedes-AMG. The GetSpeed Mercedes-AMGs and the Abt Lamborghini both delivered strong performances during the Qualifiers, indicating that the 24h will feature open, no-holds-barred battles. This also applies to the roughly 20 classes competing—ranging from full-blown race cars to near-production vehicles, ensuring variety and excitement for all fans. Numerous attractions on and off the track round out the event, making it a must-see. Organizers expect over 200,000 visitors during the race weekend once again this year.

Scherer-Porsche wins in rain-soaked thriller

24.05.2025

The Eifel showed its harsh side during the first race of the ADAC 24h Nürburgring Qualifiers (May 24–25): the four-hour contest put all 108 entrants to the test under cold and wet conditions that demanded everything from their driving skills. Perfect weather for the true virtuosos behind the wheel, who demonstrated their mastery and the capabilities of their machines. In the end, the 2024 24h race winners—Scherer Sport PHX—came out on top, but this time with their new-for-2025 Porsche 911 GT3 R (#16), driven to victory by Laurens Vanthoor and Patric Niederhauser. They finished ahead of fellow Porsche squad Manthey EMA (#911), who had taken pole in the morning’s qualifying. Third place went to the GetSpeed Mercedes-AMG GT3 (#14) with rain specialist Maxime Martin, Fabian Schiller, and Luca Stolz. A chance for redemption comes quickly: Race two of the 24h Qualifiers will also run over a four-hour distance starting Sunday (May 25) at 1:00 p.m. Right after the start of the weekend’s first race, the GT3 frontrunners showed just how fierce the battle for top positions in the 24h Qualifiers can be. Kevin Estre in Manthey EMA’s iconic “Grello” Porsche (#911) initially held the lead, while a thrilling three-way fight unfolded behind him for second. Falken driver Julien Andlauer (#33 Porsche 911 GT3 R), Frank Stippler in the Scherer PHX Porsche #8, and Laurens Vanthoor in the GetSpeed Mercedes-AMG GT3 (#16) were racing with sprint-race intensity. The Nürburgring Nordschleife, as ever, had the final say: both Estre and Andlauer dropped back on the slippery track, clearing the way for Vanthoor to take over the lead—a decisive move that ultimately secured the win. The Belgian summed it up succinctly: “There are probably no tougher conditions in motorsport than what we had here today.” Teams Use Weather for Setup Fine-TuningKevin Estre, who delivered a strong double stint in the second-placed #911 “Grello”, reflected: “They don’t call it the ‘Green Hell’ for nothing. I’m just glad I managed to keep the car on track—probably the toughest two and a half hours I’ve ever had on the Nordschleife. But we finished the race, and P2 is fine for us.” Estre was among the drivers whose teams used the treacherous conditions to experiment with wet-weather setup. “Everyone was trying something with tire pressures at the start—we got it wrong. In the first very short stint, we simply had the wrong pressure. I had no chance. But it’s definitely better to find that out now rather than during the 24h race—that’s what we’re here for.” Veteran Frank Stippler described a similar experience: “We went with way too low tire pressure. As the rain got heavier, I kept hitting aquaplaning patches—very sudden, almost digital loss of grip. It was hard to manage, and at times with the spray it felt like driving blind.” Double Significance: Final 24h Prep and NLS DoubleheaderThe 24h Qualifiers weekend holds a special place in the Nordschleife endurance calendar. The two races serve as the final chance to prepare for the ADAC RAVENOL 24h in June and offer many drivers a valuable opportunity to collect the laps needed for their "Permit"—the special Nordschleife license. The weekend also awards championship points for the ADAC Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie twice, which means strong entries across all classes. In today’s first Qualifiers race, championship leaders Arne Hoffmeister, David Jahn, and Tim Scheerbarth (Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 992, #921) defended their position at the top. The trio has won every NLS round so far in the highly competitive Cup 2 class.
