Jubilation at McLaren and Dörr Motorsport: Ben Dörr drove the fastest lap in the second qualifying session at the Nürburgring on Sunday morning with a time of 1:25.620 minutes. This secured the 20-year-old his first pole position for McLaren in the DTM and puts him in first place on the starting grid for the first time. “I'm lost for words! When I heard over the radio that I'd secured pole position, I was overjoyed. It's just wonderful to see the progress we're making as a team. Today is my father's birthday, so starting from the front of the grid is the perfect gift for him,” said a delighted Dörr. Lucas Auer (Mercedes-AMG Team Landgraf) finished second, just a tenth of a second behind, and therefore has a good chance of regaining the lead in the standings on Saturday. Gilles Magnus (Comtoyou Racing) also put in a strong performance in the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 and finished third. Fourth place went to Lamborghini driver Jordan Pepper. However, the South African from TGI Team Lamborghini by GRT will be set back five places on the grid for the race after receiving his third warning on Saturday. Jules Gounon (Mercedes-AMG Team Mann-Filter) finished qualifying in fifth place. Bright sunshine greeted the 24 drivers on Sunday morning for the second qualifying session at the Eifel circuit. With a cool 14 degrees Celsius, it took a long time for the Pirelli slicks to reach their optimum operating temperature and for fast laps to be possible. Magnus was the first driver to break the 1:26.000-minute mark with two and a half minutes remaining. Shortly afterwards, Dörr set a new fastest time. Then things got dramatic: Auer took the lead on the last lap, but just eight seconds later Dörr countered and secured the first pole position of his DTM career. Front-runner Jack Aitken disappointed with 16th place and will have a tough time defending his eight-point lead in the championship against Auer. Rast celebrates his 30th DTM victory after a gala performance

10.08.2025

A perfect race and a milestone anniversary: René Rast (Bregenz/Schubert Motorsport) celebrated his 30th victory in his DTM career on Sunday at the Nürburgring after a composed performance. After 38 laps, the three-time champion crossed the finish line in first place with a lead of just under eight seconds. "I didn't expect such a dominant race. But I could already feel in the formation lap that the car felt very good. To have secured the 30th victory of my DTM career means an incredible amount to me. When I started my DTM career in 2017, such a number was unimaginable for me," said Rast, who was successful at the Eifel circuit for the fourth time. His teammate Marco Wittmann (Fürth) completed the one-two victory for Schubert Motorsport in the BMW M4 GT3 Evo. Lucas Auer (A/Mercedes-AMG Team Landgraf) regained the lead in the standings with third place ahead of Jack Aitken (GB/Emil Frey Racing), who finished 16th and failed to score points after contact with a competitor through no fault of his own. A total of 78,000 visitors enjoyed a fantastic motorsport weekend with thrilling races and three days of sunshine. Rast showed shortly after the start on Sunday afternoon that he had big plans for the tenth DTM race of the season. The 38-year-old made up three places and slotted into third behind pole-setter Ben Dörr (Butzbach/Dörr Motorsport) in the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo and Auer. After two more overtaking maneuvers, the BMW driver took the lead on lap six and pulled away from the field as the race progressed.Rast was the last driver to make his first mandatory pit stop and remained in the lead ahead of Auer. Teammate Wittmann moved up to third place after an early tire change. Gilles Magnus (B/Comtoyou Racing) in the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 and Ford Mustang driver Arjun Maini (IND/HRT Ford Performance) followed in fourth and fifth place. Rast was also quickly dispatched by his Team Schubert Motorsport crew during the second pit stop and returned to the 3.629-kilometer track with a comfortable lead. Wittmann was able to overtake Auer shortly afterwards, who lost a lot of time during the tire change, just like on Saturday. Behind the BMW duo and Auer, Maro Engel (Monaco/Mercedes-AMG Team Winward Racing) finished Sunday's race at the Nürburgring in fourth place with a tactically astute drive. Ayhancan Güven (TR/Manthey EMA) completed the top five in his Porsche 911 GT3 R after an uneventful race at his team's home event. Maini rewarded himself with sixth place in the Ford Mustang GT3 for another strong performance. Belgian driver Magnus celebrated his first top ten finish for himself and his team in seventh place. Pole-setter Dörr was unable to keep up with the pace at the front but still finished in the points in eighth place. Jordan Pepper (ZA/TGI Team Lamborghini by GRT) steered his Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2 to ninth place and is now third in the overall standings. Thomas Preining (A) was unable to finish higher than tenth in the second Manthey EMA 911. Marco Wittmann: “After fifth place on Saturday, the podium is the perfect end to a strong weekend for us. Unfortunately, we didn't have the necessary speed in the first stint, so we decided to make an early first pit stop. The strategy paid off because it allowed me to make up a lot of positions.”Lucas Auer: “The two BMWs were on a different level. Second place might have been possible, but unfortunately our second pit stop didn’t go perfectly. Overall, it was an action-packed weekend. You can tell that the second half of the season has started and things are getting a bit rougher on the track.”

Forza Ferrari: Aitken and Vermeulen on the front row

09.08.2025

Ferrari is unstoppable in qualifying for the DTM: Jack Aitken from Team Emil Frey Racing drove the fastest lap in the first qualifying session at the Nürburgring on Saturday morning with a time of 1:25.155 minutes, securing pole position for the second time this season. Teammate Thierry Vermeulen finished second, 0.044 seconds behind. This means that the Ferrari duo will start from the front row, just as they did at the Norisring. "I'm over the moon! The team set up my car perfectly for the track. In recent years, I've often been close to the podium at the Nürburgring, but it's never quite been enough. That makes pole position all the sweeter for me. I love this place; the atmosphere at the Nürburgring is always fantastic," said the Briton, who scored three points for pole position for the second time this season and climbed to second place in the standings. Vermeulen also praised the Emil Frey Racing team: "After the Norisring, to be on the front row with two cars at the Nürburgring is the result of an outstanding team performance. With such a close margin, you're naturally a little annoyed that it wasn't enough for pole position. But there's always a second qualifying session on Sunday." Luca Engstler (TGI Team Lamborghini by GRT) took third place in the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2. Alongside him, Ben Green will start the ninth race of the season in fourth place in the third Ferrari from Emil Frey Racing. Championship leader Lucas Auer (Mercedes-AMG Team Landgraf) steered his Mercedes-AMG GT3 into fifth place. With temperatures of 18 degrees Celsius, it took more than ten minutes in Saturday morning's qualifying session for the 24 drivers' Pirelli tires to reach the optimum temperature range. After that, the lead changed hands every second. Auer initially took the lead, but was soon overtaken by Engstler. With just under a minute and a half to go, Aitken set the fastest time on the 3.629-kilometer track before Vermeulen moved up to second place on his final lap. The gaps in the first qualifying session at the Nürburgring were extremely close, with the top five separated by just 0.121 seconds. Spectacular moments, emotional reunions, and historical highlights at the Oldtimer Grand Prix

03.08.2025

Three days of world-class historic motorsport at the Nürburgring with numerous highlights – that's what the BELMOT Oldtimer Grand Prix offered the approximately 39,000 spectators this weekend. Despite some changeable weather, visitors to the Nürburgring experienced unique racing and show moments: The lineup ranged from pre-war racing cars to Formula 1 cars from the Cosworth era, from picture-perfect sports cars and GTs from the 1950s and 1960s to the legendary DTM and DRM racing cars and historic formula racing cars from junior series. Even historic racing and sports motorcycles made a guest appearance at the Ring, once again making the historic festival an extremely diverse experience. Reason enough to look forward to next year, especially as the date for the 53rd edition in 2026 has already been set: it will take place from August 7 to 9, 2026. The organizing committee of the BELMOT Oldtimer Grand Prix was satisfied with the outcome of the event. Head of organization Wolfgang Schulz: "This year's BELMOT Oldtimer Grand Prix offered thrilling racing with old and new highlights. With the help of the participating racing series and our partners, we were able to offer a race weekend that provided many real treats for experts in historic motorsport, while also giving fans who wanted to relive the automotive and human heroes of yesteryear their money's worth. A big thank you therefore goes to all the participants who put their fantastic vehicles to work here, our many helpers, both full-time and voluntary, and of course our partners, who enriched the weekend with their great offers." Classic cars took center stageThis year's race program was even more diverse than ever before and left nothing to be desired. The Golden Era Touring Cars featured prominent drivers such as Kris Nissen, Roland Asch, Kurt Thiim, Volker Strycek, Altfrid Heger, and many more, who competed for the top spots in their legendary BMW, Opel, and Mercedes cars. A special highlight was the race for two-seater sports cars and GTs up to 1971 on Saturday evening. At the start: Porsche 904 GTS, Mercedes 300 SL, Aston Martin DB4 GT, Ferrari 250 GT SWB, and many other iconic racing cars, which brought real Le Mans flair to the track at dusk. The starting grids were almost fully booked, with points up for grabs for the German Historic Car Championship (DAHM): HC '65 and HC '81 offered thrilling, action-packed racing with an extremely diverse range of touring cars, GTs, and sports cars. A major highlight was the Formula 1 return of the Masters Racing Legends: the original Formula 1 cars from the Cosworth era (1966–1985) created a spine-tingling atmosphere with their 3-liter V8 sound—an emotional look back at the former glory days of Grand Prix racing. New to the program: the revival of the Super Touring Cars, the Golden Era Classic Cup with former Porsche Cup cars, and demo laps by historic motorcycles from the “Grab the Flag!” initiative, which added a multifaceted dimension to the event. OGP partners enriched the eventThe Classicbid auction on Saturday morning was also a great success, marking the return of a classic car auction to the OGP after a long hiatus. It was well attended and a magnet for collectors and enthusiasts. The premiere of the new video podcast “BELMOT & friends on the road” was just one of many attractions at the stand of title partner BELMOT. Timing partner Junghans impressed with edition watches designed exclusively for the event. The large Motor Klassik tent was also a particular focus of attention, which was not only busy during the autograph sessions with former DTM stars, but also a central meeting point for many visitors. Editor-in-chief Hans Jörg Götzl commented: "Since our founding 41 years ago here at the Oldtimer Grand Prix, we have been a committed partner of this event. And every year, this weekend inspires us anew with its breadth, which truly offers something for everyone: from spectacular classic motorsport with the Cosworth Formula 1 and large-volume sports cars to excellently cast races such as the evening race and the popular touring car classes, where seemingly every spectator can find a car they know and like."
